I've been meaning to do this for awhile, and by "awhile," I mean years.
I figure with the new year on its way, it's time to stop procrastinating and get started.
Here's the thing. I share a lot of information on Facebook about products I like and dislike, books that I've read, movies that I've watched, but it doesn't get a lot of interaction. It's Facebook. You get likes or you get ignored, and that's great and all, but to be honest, no one would really care if Facebook went away tomorrow, and it's not exactly the perfect way to interact. More like the perfect way to pretend to interact while doing the minimal amount necessary.
Now, you've got your movie sites, your video game sites, your book sites, your recipe sites, and even your product sites and your subscription box sites. None of this is, however, all located in the same spot, and 90% of the time, the reviews are not honest. They're in return for products and so people feel as though if they say anything bad at all, they will hurt the supplier's feelings and will no longer get free stuff - it may as well be a paid review, and in a way it is - they get "free" stuff in return for an "honest" review. Well, that gets old, quick.
I'm tired of wondering about things, and I'm sure there are some of you out there who are tired as well. Seeing as how asking for recommendations is no longer a thing - believe me, I've tried! - best just to bite the bullet and see what can be done to help others that may be looking for the same information I was.
Things that I have already written reviews for, but do not have pictures of my own will link to other's pictures - offering credit where applicable. Once I get caught up, I will switch over to pictures that I take personally.
If there's something you're interested in seeing reviewed, let me know and I might be able to do something about it.
For now, I'm starting by concentrating on the things that I've already got written, things that I never found the time to get put up in one comprehensive location.
This includes - movies, specifically movies that we have bought within the past three years that we never got around to watching (we are paring down our movie library and getting rid of the ones not to our taste); books from my "to be read" (TBR) pile that I'm finally starting to tackle in earnest - also for the purpose of tidying, though this time the purpose is tidying up my real library, and various subscription boxes and products that I have tried.
You'll only find honest reviews here. This means that if I don't like something, I will say so, and tell you the reasons for it. If I like it, ditto. There's not going to be any "oh, but this would be great for so and so though it's not really to my taste." No. If I don't like it, you'll get my reasoning. If I'm feeling spiffy and have the extra time, heck, I'll even throw in some links to other reviews, so you can get the total picture. Eventually, I will get a donation button up on here, but for now, just the basics will do.
